These Feminists Have Killer Hair, No?
Before you even start to say whatever objection you have to this (and there are so many ways to object to this!) lets just get this straight. These women are the women who defined our culture, fought hard, thankless battles, took heat for daring to say something different stand up to the boys and change the world, yes. And also: these women all have amazing hair. They do. They do damn it, and don’t tell us we can’t acknowledge and write about it, because we can! From Simone de Bouvoirs neatly pinned, coiled updo to Alice Walker’s cascade of dreads, you just cant deny that they’ve all got it going on in the hair department. No one more so than Gloria Steinem, whose seminal Ms. Magazine redefined the word feminist and whose hypnotically glossy lush head of hair, I can assure you, did not just happen without the assistance of a blow-dryer, quality hairbrushes and several strategic products. You don’t just roll out of bed with hair like that…so… Here they are: Great Feminists, with really great hair. Maybe that’s because a lot of them are born and bred New Yorkers (and New York—you’ve got great hair.) Apologies to anyone we left out. There are so many amazing women we could have added to this list, but a deadline’s a deadline. Enjoy!
